Part 2: Managing Exam Stress – Time Management

Most of us don’t do proactive work. We take things to the last minute and when that happens, we create stress for ourselves. Planning of your time and Execution of the plan is the key to cruising through exam times.

In this post, I’ll be sharing some Time Management techniques from my online course “Smarter, Not Harder: Time Management for Stress-Free Results”.

The first question you might have is – Why Time Management?

There are following benefits I see consistently, who manage their time well

  • Avoid missing important deadlines.
  • Be happier and healthier.
  • Do what you enjoy doing.
  • Less rework & wasted time.
  • Benefits after studies.
  • Reduce conflicts with friends and family.
  • Boosts morale and confidence.
  • Realize goals and objectives within the shortest possible time span

Step 1: Budget your week

Identifying where you utilise your time and how you are able to add, modify or remove things which are not important during exam time.

The activity will give you clear understanding of how you are spending your time.

Step 2: Set your goals/tasks

The second thing I would suggest you do is set your goals/tasks for exam preparations.

For example before exam your goal could be

Finish 10 chapters of Maths before 3rd March 2017.

If that is your goal, please break down what are the tasks you need to complete to achieve this goal.

  • Do __________________
  • Read ________________
  • Write ________________
  • Practice ______________
  • Learn ________________
  • Revise _______________

You can go and even write how much time and effort will be required in completing each task. You could have Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly goals, which you should break into tasks to accomplish.

The smaller tasks are not mentally scary, finishing 10 chapter and Reading Chapter No 3 has different psychological effect. By finishing small tasks, you can slowly and steadily accomplish bigger tasks.

Step 3: Plot your tasks in a Time Table

Once the tasks are defined, the best way to remember and execute them is putting them onto a time table.
